Several road improvements are underway and coming soon across the Greater Houston region. Here are some projects to keep an eye on.

Upcoming projects
Project: According to details shared by Harris County MUD 500 and Caldwell Companies, the new Greenhouse Road underpass will include an expanded overpass on Hwy. 290, a tunnel structure underneath the Union Pacific railroad and additional sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.
Update: Bids for construction of the project are now being accepted, according to Precinct 3 officials.

2. Hufsmith-Kohrville Road widening
Project: This project will widen Hufsmith-Kohrville Road from two to four lanes between Ezekiel Road and north of Boudreaux Road.
Update: Construction is estimated to begin in April, according to Harris County Precinct 3 officials.

3. Cartwright Road reconstruction
Project: The project will reconstruct the road during the first phase, with the second phase to add additional lanes.
Update: Design of the first phase is nearing completion, with Phase 2 design underway.

- Timeline: second quarter of 2026-second quarter of 2027 (Phase 1); second quarter of 2027-fourth quarter of 2027

4. Spring Cypress Road and Louetta Road asphalt rehabilitation
Project: This project will rehabilitate asphalt on Spring Cypress Road, from (A) west of Stuebner Airline to east of T.C. Jester Boulevard, and (B) Louetta Road, from Old Louetta to east of Champion Forest Drive.
Update: Work has begun along Spring Cypress Road to replace asphalt as part of an asphalt rehabilitation effort.

5. FM 1960 widening
Project:
FM 1960 was widened from a four-lane asphalt roadway to a six-lane divided concrete roadway with a raised median, curbs and gutters, channelized left-turn lanes and 5-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. Segment A runs from Business FM 1960 to east of Twigsworth Lane, while Segment B continues to the western approach of the McKay Bridge at Lake Houston.
Update: Construction on Segment B wrapped up in December, said Bambi Hall, public information officer for the TxDOT, via email Feb. 16. Construction is nearing completion on Segment A.

6. Ford Road Segment 1
Project: This project will widen Hufsmith-Kohrville Road from two to four lanes between Ezekiel Road and north of Boudreaux Road.
Update: Construction is estimated to begin in April, according to Harris County Precinct 3 officials.

- Timeline: April-second quarter 2028

Project: The Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority is expanding Westpark Tollway an additional four miles, bringing its new end to Charger Way.
Update: The first 2-mile extension of the project opened Feb. 28, more than eight months ahead of schedule.

- Timeline: August 2024-fall 2026
- Funding source: toll revenue
8. Hwy. 242 widening
Project: TxDOT is using the existing right of way on Hwy. 242 between FM 1488 and I-45 to widen lanes and restripe the intersections.
Update: As of the most recent information released by TxDOT on March 10, the project being carried out by Posillico Civil Inc. was 79% complete.

Completed projects
9. Anderson Road reconstruction
Project: Anderson Road was reconstructed to include additional roadway width and shoulders between FM 1097 and FM 830.
Update: This project was completed as of Feb. 20, Montgomery County Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker announced via Facebook.
