Temperatures took a tumble overnight and in some parts of Southeast Texas, the National Weather Service is getting reports of sleet!
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — If you went outside at any point on Monday, no doubt you felt the big temperature tumble we’ve been telling you was coming. In just a matter of hours, we went from shorts and sandals to sweater weather as a cold front blew in.
And now we’re hearing of winter weather in parts of Southeast Texas. Meteorologist Pat Cavlin shared a video from viewer Derek Gregg, who posted little sleet pellets falling in Montgomery County.
Derek wrote, “Sleet in Montgomery Texas, temps were around 42-43. Lasted for about 7 min.”

And Derek apparently wasn’t the only one who noticed the winter weather. The National Weather Service Houston posted a looping radar, showing precipitation, noting that dry air was preventing much of it from reaching the ground, but that they are starting to get reports of sleet pellets in the Brazos Valley and northern counties.

Looking ahead
Winds calm down on Tuesday, but temperatures continue to drop. Morning lows fall into the upper 30s, and meteorologists say Wednesday morning has the best chance to flirt with freezing.
Sensitive plants may need to be brought indoors Wednesday morning, though widespread protection is not expected to be necessary. By midweek, temperatures rebound into the 60s, followed by 70s Thursday and a return to the 80s by Friday, closing out the year with a temperature roller coaster.
