Sons of the American Revolution Freedom Chapter Veterans Honored by

Montgomery County Lone Star Chapter, Quilts of Valor (QOV) 16 February 2026

President’s Day 2026 was
just a little extra special for the Freedom Chapter Sons of the American
Revolution. Besides remembering our
First President’s Birthday on “President’s
Day”, the Chapter had five veterans of their own, all descendants of our
nation’s first veterans, honored by local Montgomery Lone Star Quilts of Valor
Chapter with their own patriotically designed quilt. Making this quilt even more special, each one of them
incorporated in their design the Declaration of Independence in celebration of
our Nation’s 250th anniversary.

Mrs. Debby McLaughlin,
representing the Lone Star QOV Chapter, graciously honored and awarded each
Veteran with her sincerest thanks and a hug. She
explained to the Freedom Chapter and
guests the mission of the QOV and thanked all her members for preparing,
completing, and personalizing each of the five quilts. Mr. Wallace Shook, a WWII Veteran and descendant of Daniel Boone, celebrated
his 100th birthday last fall. Wally served in the

U.S. Army Air
Corps. Mr.
Charles Lano, Mr. Skipper Jones, and
Mr. Art
Byram all
served in
the

U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Mr. Ed Sellards served in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War and Gulf War.

A Quilt of Valor®(QOV) is a
quality, handmade quilt that is machine or hand quilted. The Quilt
says unequivocally, “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our
nation.”

To use
the term Quilt of Valor, Quilts of Valor or QOV,
the quilt must be a specific size and must have
a label with
required information, it must be awarded (it is not a gift)
and it must be recorded.
