On Saturday, December 13, 2025, members of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chapter, Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, helped to place wreaths at the grave sites of military veterans.
National wide, at sea and aboard, this ceremony takes place on the same day. Wreaths Across America was started back in 2008, by placing fresh evergreen wreaths with a single red bow on it, at a grave site. The one placing the wreath is to say the veterans name and can thank him or her, for their service.
The ceremony took place at the Oakwood Cemetery in Conroe, just off Hwy. 105 and 10th Street. One of the earliest graves is dated 1869 and it was for a Confederate soldier. All branches of the military and all the wars are honored during the ceremony. There are 253 military veterans buried at Oakwood and it is a beautiful site to see all the wreaths at the grave sites. The theme for Wreaths Across America in 2025..”Keep Moving Forward”.
There were 5,200 participating in WAA this year to…Remember the Fallen”.
The mission of WAA is to honor the fallen and teach the next generation the value of freedom. During the ceremony, Jessica Rizk, a Stubbs member and chairman of our Patriotic Committee, read the names of the veterans to the audience.
If you have never attended a WAA event, it is a very moving ceremony. Also, the clean up date for removing the wreaths is January 11, 2026 at 2 p m.
