What a treat for the hometown team as they win their final game of the 2025 season in style beating the Colts 38-30 in decisive fashion. The Houston Texans, rated number one defense in the league and in scoring, shut down Jonathan Taylor, limiting him to only twenty-six (26) yards on fourteen (14) carries. He was hoping to win the rushing title, but the Texans had a different strategy. The Texan defensive team had fifteen different players make a tackle. That is a record that no one is talking about. Defensive back Allijah Huzzle had the game’s only interception and the always powerful and aggressive defensive end Danielle Hunter recorded a sack. What can you say about Texans’ quarterback C.J. Stroud? He is a gem for this team with his quiet and intense leadership, he scored his first rushing touchdown in two (2) years as he led his team with over three hundred and thirty-nine (339) total offensive yards that included fourteen (14) completions on twenty-three (23) attempts for one hundred and sixty-nine (169) yards and a passing touchdown. The talented back-up Davis Mills came in late to finish the game. The running back duo of Brooks and Marks had one hundred and one (101) rushing yards, both had a (4.8) average per carry. Coach Ryans gave wide receiver Nico Collins the day off, so Xavier Hutchinson stepped up along with Dalton Schutz for nine (9) receptions. Congratulations to place kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn who went six (6) for six (6) and made his stoic presence known. The special team with punter Tommy Townsend did well with pinning the Colts behind the twenty (20) yard line. The standout was Jaylin Noel who continues to improve each week with outstanding returns accounting for one hundred and seventy-five (175) yards on six (6) returns.
The cherry on top was the very last play of the game when rookie quarterback Leonard threw a short pass to his receiver who lateraled it to wide receiver Michael Pittman who then lateralled it back to Leonard who fumbled it and the Texans defensive linemen Tommy Togial picked it up and crashed into the endzone providing the nail in Indianapolis’ defeat. It was an incredibly competitive game, but when the wheels came off it was a remarkable sight. Despite the fumble, a star is born for the Colts in the rookie Riley Leonard as he tossed two (2) touchdown passes including a sixty-six (66) yard touchdown to wide receiver Pierce that put the Colts up 7-3 in the first quarter, and that exposed a weakness in the Texans’ secondary. The good news for the Texans is that Pierce was later ejected from the game for bullying a referee.
In other AFC South divisional action, the Jacksonville Jaguar stomped the Tennessee Titans 41-7 to claim the title for the division. The Houston Texans, with one of the best records in their franchise history, captured the Wildcard position.
The Texans have the wind in their sails and the sun on their face as they ended the season with nine (9) straight wins which is a franchise record and winning the Wild card position for the first time.
