“Financial Independence is not accidental, it is engineered”
As we leave 2025 in the rearview window, and set our new horizons for 2026, people are thinking about their financial goals, and resolutions. fresh starts. That is why I created the Income Engineering process — a practical, seven stage system that helps individuals build, protect, and sustain wealth with intention. This year, I am introducing a new tool to bring the process to life: The Income Engineering Monthly Planning Process.
Despite its name, this “process” is not something to dread. It is a monthly financial blueprint that helps you understand where your money is going, how taxes affect your wealth, and what steps you can take to improve your financial future. It transforms the idea of planning from a burden into a statement of financial identity.
Income Engineering is built on the seven stages of Income Engineering, beginning with Creating Wealth. Instead of starting with expenses, the Bill starts with opportunities. Each month, you identify new ways to create value; whether through new or refined skills, business ideas, side ventures, or tax advantaged opportunities. Wealth creation becomes proactive, not an afterthought.
Next comes Income Allocation, the stage where every dollar is held accountable. Traditional budgeting focuses on restrictions, whereas, Income Allocation focuses on your direction. The Bill helps you map out essentials, discretionary spending, savings, investments, and tax reserves for the self-employed individuals. It also includes “opportunity capital,” money that is set aside to fund the ideas you identified in the Creation of Wealth.
The third stage, The Protection Principle, ensures that what you build is protected. The process includes a monthly review of insurance, emergency funds, and risk management strategies. Protection becomes a habit rather than a reaction to crisis.
Stage Four, Tax Allocated Portfolios, is where the label earns its name. Instead of waiting until tax season, you review your tax strategy every month. This includes pre tax and Roth decisions, HSA contributions, charitable giving, business deductions, and investment placement. Taxes become a tool for building wealth, not a once a year surprise.
The fifth stage, Retirement Planning, focuses on funding your future self. The Bill tracks contributions to retirement accounts, passive income development, and long term planning strategies. Retirement becomes a monthly priority, rather than a distant whim or a wish.
Stage Six, Legacy, encourages you to think beyond your lifetime. The process prompts you to review estate plans, trusts, beneficiaries, gifting strategies, and family education funds. Legacy planning becomes part of everyday financial life.
Finally, Advocacy turns financial literacy into a community effort. Each month, you ask: “Who did I help? Or, who could I help with financial literacy?” Whether you mentor a young person, or a senior citizen, share a resource, or start a conversation, you contribute to a culture of financial empowerment.
Income Engineering is more than just a book; it is a mindset. It helps you see your finances clearly, make smarter decisions, and build a future rooted in intention.
As we begin 2026, this tool offers a powerful way to take control of your financial life and help others do the same.
