The Players Theatre Company is launching into the new year with an elegant dinner party that collapses into comic mayhem and an evening spiraling into a whirlwind of mistaken stories, frantic cover-ups, and nonstop laughs with Neil Simon’s classic comedy Rumors.
The show is playing January 23 through February 8 at The Owen Theatre in downtown Conroe. The secrets, confusion, and side-splitting chaos that unleash center stage prove that nothing spreads faster than a rumor.
Rumors, a masterclass in theatrical farce, centers on an evening gone spectacularly wrong when the host is found injured and unconscious just as guests begin to arrive. As the night unravels, the misunderstandings multiply, secrets emerge, and chaos reigns — all delivered with Neil Simon’s signature wit and razor-sharp dialogue.
Directed by Cameron Collier, this production promises rapid-fire humor, impeccable timing, and a talented ensemble cast. “Rumors is one of those rare comedies where the laughs are relentless and the stakes keep rising,” said Collier. “It’s a joyous challenge for actors and an absolute delight for audiences. At its heart, the play reminds us how easily we complicate things — and how funny that can be.”
The show contains some mild language and sexual innuendo typical of Neil Simon, but is considered acceptable for older children and all adults.
Rumors runs from January 23 through February 8, 2026 at The Owen Theatre located at 225 Metcalf in downtown Conroe. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights and 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees.

The Players Theatre Company began in 1967 as The Little Theatre of Conroe utilizing the Conroe High School stage and later a refurbished plumbing supply store at the corner of Galveston and Robertson Streets. After helping to restore the historic Crighton Theatre in 1979, the group produced shows there for nearly 30 years as The Crighton Players. In 2008, in a partnership with the City of Conroe, The Players Theatre Company was formed and moved to their current residence at The Owen Theatre.
