The weather outside was not frightful at all, that weather report on December 13, 2025 called for cloudy skies and possible rain that morning, but as we all know, those predictions can change . The annual Christmas parade in Montgomery started at 10 A M under cloudy skies and NO rain, it was a beautiful day for a parade.
Three members of the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chapter, Texas Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, either walked or rode on the float that day. Those members were Bette Garland, Eva Rains and Helen Shepherd. They were joined by members of the Grimes County Grey’s Camp 924 in Anderson, those members were Jody Ballard, Jonathan Grimm, Buddy Gurganus, Don Midkiff, Terry Grimm and Brett Mize. Also joining the float was Paul Smith from the Capt. James Gillispie Camp 226 in Huntsville and Marty Pennington a member of the John B. Hood Camp 50 in Galveston and from a new camp in Tomball was Steve Sodish with the 4th Texas Field Battery Camp 2358. All of these men are with the Texas Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The overall parade theme this year was the “Lone Star”. The Stubbs float theme was “An Old Fashion Christmas”. There were cedar wreaths with dried flowers/fruit and yaupon berries with green leaves mixed it and a burlap bow at the botton center, placed on the float. Burlap bows and yaupon was hung all along the rails of the trailer. Several flags graced the trailer and some were carried by the men. It was said that this parade was the biggest ever had in Montgomery. The SCV and the UDC would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
