The specifics
Throughout the summer, the organization’s programming will include:

- Day camps: Engagement-driven experiences use science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning; creative arts; sports; water safety education; and outdoor recreation to encourage youth productivity.
- A network of youth sports programs and specialized summer sports clinics geared toward participants from ages 3 to 17 coach the value of teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Safety Around Water (SAW): The program is designed to increase access to life-saving swim instruction at no cost to attending children and families.
- The YMCA’s new swim lessons model: A personalized guide categorizes swimmers based on their age to ensure they are taking lessons at the appropriate skill level.
The primary focus of the YMCA of Greater Houston’s Safety Around Water program is to teach children how to swim over a series of lessons, reducing the risk of drowning through learned survival strategies, according to the release.
